John and Johanna grew up on the atoll of Woleai, a group of outer-islands 400 miles from Yap proper with a population of approximately 600. With their enthusiasm for education and love for children, they attended the College of Micronesia in Pohnpei major in Education so that they could return to their isolated islands and teach in the elementary school. While attending College, they were invited to attend a PMA Bible Study. Never having heard the Gospel presented in their islands, John and Johanna opened their hearts to the Lord and received new life in Christ as well as good news to share with the people of their islands. After College, John served as a crew member with the Sea Haven, while Johanna returned to her island. When John returned to Woleai to stay, he and Johanna got married. They both taught in elementary school and included Bible stories in the lessons. With a desire for in-depth Bible knowledge, PMA arranged for them to attend a Bible School in the Philippines - for John to pursue Pastoral Work and Johanna, Christian Education. Upon completion, they served their internship in PMF Palau. John and Johanna are now back in Yap. Their main concern is to reach the outer-islanders for Christ. They live on Yap proper now because of the great opportunity to reach a large number of their people who have settled in the island because of work and studies. Once in a while, they have opportunities to fly with our PMA aircraft to Woleai and make the most of their time there by one-on-one meetings with family and friends. Pray for John and Johanna as they reach their own people, isolated by a vast ocean, and up till now, closed to the Gospel.
