History of PMA's Aviation Services
|
In January of 1956, Pastor Edmund Kalau and his wife Elizabeth started serving as missionaries in Palau and Yap (Micronesia).
After living there for 20 years and seeing the isolation of the people living in the islands and how they could not easily get
the health care available, a vision was born to use airplanes to reach those remote islands.
Several of the islands already had airstrips left over from WWII.
The Mission Society which Pastor Kalau had been with, did not share his vision for moving into aviation,
and so reluctantly he separated from the organization and founded Pacific Missionary Aviation.
He then personally raised funds in the U.S. and Germany to buy PMA's first aircraft, the Evangel 4500.
Then with another pilot, ferried the aircraft from U.S. to Yap in July 1974.
By God's grace and provision, PMA has been able to continue serving the people in Micronesia with safe an reliable air transportation.
From its inception until the present day, PMA is on call for Medical Evacuations which it offers free of charge.
Also, Medicine drops and Search and Rescue are offered for only the cost of fuel.
Today PMA has aviation bases in Yap, Palau, and in the Philippines.
