Mission News Update April 2008

Dear Praying Friends and Faithful Partners,

"The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree; He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing." Psalm 92:12-14

When I read this verse, Mom and Dad Kalau (Pastor Edmund and Elizabeth) immediately came to my mind. Dad will be eighty this year, and Mom will be seventy-seven and suffers from Parkinson’s disease. And yet - they are always positive, on the go - still serving the Lord and ministering to people. In their old age, they continue to bear fruit, stay fresh and flourish. In the Bible, the palm tree is praised for its shade, food, beauty and medicinal value. When believers faithfully follow the Lord - they become a shade to people - providing protection and refreshment from the harshness of life. They bring spiritual food to those hungering and thirsting for God. They exemplify the beauty of our Lord in their lives and bring healing to those who are broken hearted. The cedar of Lebanon - the most cold-hardy species of the cedar, has long life (some have lived to 1,500 years), prefers well-drained, fertile soil, but tolerates infertile, dry alkaline soil and has no major pest problems. In the same manner, a believer who truly takes His Lord’s Word to heart - can withstand the storms of life - with Christ as the solid foundation - he can tolerate an ungodly world - but does not allow the world to conform him, and chooses everyday to have the Word of God transform his life so that no major sin problem can hinder him in his spiritual growth and ability to bless others. It is my prayer that we flourish like palm trees and grow like the cedars of Lebanon that we may be a blessing to those around us.

GUAM
We are so very thankful for Wai Yi Ma as she serves with us here on Guam as a volunteer. It all started when she applied with us in August 2007 to do an internship to meet the requirements for her University class in Communications. She has been instrumental in down loading radio programs and putting it on CD for our Radio Station in Pohnpei, and for them in turn to upload the programs for broadcast. Her internship was completed December of last year, but her commitment to be part of this important ministry has motivated her to continue to serve with us in this capacity. We are so thankful to God for her faithfulness, diligence and commitment.

PHILIPPINES
From Malcolm Cleope: "Mary and I brought our cell group led by Alex Araneta to Jomalig yesterday, Sunday. It was a great time to minister to our workers: Jun and Baby Mandreza and the PMF congregation as we handled the worship service. Alex preached, Jimmy, another cell group member shared his testimony as one who grew up in another remote island of the Philippines, while Peter, Mary and I led the worship singing. After the service, the wives of the cell group members prepared the food which we brought from Manila, while the congregation shared tuna and sweet sour fish. It was a successful evangelistic outreach service that reached out to the youth and children as well. We also distributed small bags of groceries which were much appreciated by those who received them. We are indeed thankful for this outreach. The Cell Group - having experienced the joy of reaching out to others - is planning another outreach in another PMF island church."

BAHAY KALINGA ORPHANAGE
During this month, our children suffered with bouts of illnesses. We are thankful that each one is doing much better, being restored to good health. Pray for our Care Givers as they care for our children, that they will exemplify God’s love and nurture these children as their own.

PALAU
"We thank God for brother Mike," shares Ruth Fulguerinas. "During his birthday, he had his day off. But what did he do? He and his family celebrated his special day in thanksgiving - cleaning PMA grounds together with his family and some volunteers. Since coming to know the Lord Jesus, he's had a different outlook in life. He sees his life as one big "Thank You" to God, serving Him in every way he can. He and his wife have been faithfully coming to church and we pray that they will always have a day off during Sundays so they can worship with us at PMF."

YAP, MICRONESIA
"We have people on the remote islands that are in need of prayers and encouragement," John Malimai writes. "They desire to grow in the Lord, but there is no one to guide and lead them with the Truth from the Word of God. They have no shepherd and under a lot of pressure from the organized church in the area. The ship that is supposed to go to the outer-islands is still out of commission and may take a long time to be repaired. Until then, we have to wait and this means that your prayers for the islands are critically needed."

POHNPEI, MICRONESIA
Sylvia Kalau shared about the preparation for the Easter presentation entitled: "I've Been Thinking..." From children to adults, the whole church is involved: a 60 member choir practicing their songs, children practicing and learning mime, youth with their drama, songs, a live band, and even a worship hula dance - and of course there are those involved in preparing props and the stage - all to proclaim the thought provoking message of God's Truth about who He is, His Son Jesus Christ, The Bible, Salvation, The Cross and what Resurrection means. The challenge for those who will be attending the Sunday through Wednesday services is - What are you going to do about these Truths that have been presented to you in all the art forms? Pray that those attending the programs will respond with humble, teachable hearts and give their lives to Jesus our Lord."

The Word of God talks about the principle of sowing and reaping - when we sow sparingly, we reap sparingly and of course, when we sow abundantly and with a joyful heart, we reap abundantly, flowing over, shaken together - what we sow - we shall reap. It is my prayer that we sow the seeds of obedience, righteousness and love - then, watch and wait for the Lord to increase and bless you with an abundance of His grace, spiritual growth and yes, He allows you taste His goodness in the land of the living!

In Him we live and move and have our being
