Mission News Update August 2007

Dear Praying Friends and Faithful Partners,

"But how are they to call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?" Romans 10:14

During mission conferences in my home church in the Philippines, the speaker almost always uses the above verses to challenge us to pray, give, send and be sent to the mission field. In the first Mission Conference I attended as a believer, the Lord used these words to rekindle my heart with the passion God planted when I was still a little girl, to be a missionary. And God did fulfill that dream in more ways than I could imagine. As I grow in my faith, I realize that the power of God’s word does not come from the person proclaiming it, or the method used to share it - but because it is the Word of God. God’s word is powerful because it is God-breathed, a two edged sword that can pierce our innermost being; able to teach, rebuke, correct and train in righteousness. We praise God that you, our partners have chosen to obey God by praying and supporting us so that we can continue to proclaim the life-giving message of the Gospel. Thank you for giving to the Lord! Thank you for being a part of our team.

GUAM
"I learned something that I never knew before." "What great teaching!" "How do I get a copy of this tape?" "I want to watch it again." Were just some of the comments I heard from our congregation after watching the series: "Foundations of Faith" prepared by Walk through the Bible Ministries. We thank God for these series as it again reminded all of Who and what we believe. And for many in our congregation who are new in their faith - this series strengthened their beliefs and enabled them to grow and learn about who God is and the basic doctrines of the Christian faith from the word of God. Pray that they may stand firm in their faith as they learn God’s truth from His word and not be tossed by every wind of doctrine that comes their way.

PHILIPPINES
"It was a privilege to observe Geneziel, Dr. John’s faithful assistant, in action during a medical eye outreach," shares Mary Cleope. “I watched him gently screen the eyes of all paitients, take blood pressure, and answer a multitude of questions. He is a soft spoken man of 27 from the Quezon province where Dr. John has a clinic 4 days a week. I was concerned that he and Dr. John were overwhelmed by 3 solid days of non-stop patients, but he just smiled. "This is easy," he says. "We generally work from 9 AM to 9 PM Tuesdays, Thursday and Fridays. And every Wednesdays, we have surgeries 7 AM to 10 PM." The surgical patients they have in Quezon are mostly 60 years and older - with cataracts or glaucoma for 2-5 years. They travel from villages around the province. When they come, they usually wear drab clothing, walk stiffly like robots with their arms extended, hesitating, and having sullen gloomy dispositions. The free out-patient surgery is performed and the patients need to stay 1-2 days for follow-up. When they come back, Geneziel is amazed by their transformation - the ladies wear bright colored fashionable clothing, wear make-up and have a spunky lift to their step. Before the surgery, they were dependent on their family, now they can take care of themselves ~ but more important - they can see! They cannot thank Dr. John and Geneziel enough!" Pray for Dr. John and Geneziel that the love and care they show their patients will draw them closer to the One who gives true sight.

BAHAY KALINGA ORPHANAGE
"We are able to match Gary and Jenny!" shares Malcolm Cleope. "Their prospective adoptive parents will be picking them up between October and November this year." Pray for the completion of all the paperwork, and for the children to have a loving and caring home.

PALAU
"Praise God for 11 years of God’s faithfulness in Palau!" Joy Del Rosario was sharing with me of their month-long celebration of God’s goodness. "Pastor Bambit (her husband), shared and reiterated PMA’s mission and vision and challenged the congregation to live the Core Values that PMA stands for. Many newcomers came (most from the Palauan Bible Study group), who are now consistently coming to church. The Lord is truly working in the lives of many!"

YAP, MICRONESIA
An Update from Amos Collins: "I just want to thank you all for your prayers. I really felt the Lord helping me throughout the preparation and the examination for Inspection Authorization (IA). Usually when I study Regulations, I have 10 minute attention span, and even if I can concentrate, I fall asleep from boredom. But in the 3 days and 3 nights, I spent pouring over all materials they gave me to study I was amazed how focused and alert I was and how I could retain much of the information I learned. That was for sure a blessing from the Lord. And so I took the examination and passed it! Praise the Lord!" Amos and Heidi will soon be meeting up in Guam before they fly to Yap. Heidi traveled ahead to go to Indonesia first to pick up all her belongings. Please pray for traveling mercies and for the many things they need to do in Yap to settle and begin their life and ministry there as a couple.

POHNPEI, MICRONESIA
It was good to be with all our mission staff, especially hosts: Nob and Sylvia Kalau and children Chelsea and Alex during the annual internal audit and review of operations in Pohnpei. The audit and review went very well. There were a lot of special times with each of our staff in fellowship, encouragement and prayer. It was also great to be with the Good News Press staff and once again share from the word of God during their "Tea Time". What a great joy to visit and pray with many of the Pacific Mission Fellowship family who I have gotten to know through the many years I have visited the island - their faithfulness and spiritual growth in the Lord, are such a great blessing. The Vacation Bible School was ongoing during the week and I praise God for 160 children who attended. I was able to attend the last day’s activities - and the enthusiasm and alertness of all the children had not faded through the week. They were still enthusiastically singing from the top of their voices and shouting out their memory verse! It was truly a blast for all of them. One answered prayer was being able to follow up our children who are now living in Pohnpei, who attended our Kids Klub on Guam. It is the prayer of my heart that they will continue grow in the Lord and that their parents will bring them to our PMF church in Pohnpei. It was a great blessing to listen to our FM radio which began broadcasting in July. As I listened to many testimonies of how the programs have encouraged, taught and blessed many, I cannot praise God enough! I thank God for our team in Pohnpei, they are a source of great blessing to me.

Dear Ones, you have prayed, you have given and you have sent and the Lord is answering your prayers. Lives are being touched and transformed by the saving power of the word of God through the faithfulness of His servants. Thank you so very much for standing with us and being a very important part of our service to God. God bless you greatly!

In Him we live and move and have our being,

Melinda R. Espinosa
