Mission News Update August 2006

Dear Praying Friends and Faithful Partners,

"But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name." John 20:31 NKJV

This was our memory verse for the whole month of July in Sunday school. By the 5th Sunday - the children of course knew this by heart. With the theme: Jesus’ Power, we learned how Jesus is able to provide for all our needs - if He could feed a multitude of over 5,000 people, surely, He can take care of us. We learned that He is Lord over all creation, and meditated in our hearts that if the winds and the waves obey Him - we need to be obedient as well. It was exciting for them to learn how Jesus healed the sick, raised men to life and that He Himself rose from the dead! The children were wide-eyed in wonder as I related the stories. I wondered how much they truly understood. And when they excitedly related the stories as we reviewed them, I knew that I could trust the Lord to communicate spiritual truths to them through the Holy Spirit. Reading these stories from the word of God and sharing them with the children reminded me once more how great our God is and I prayed that I may never lose the wonder and awe I have for our Lord Jesus. That is my prayer for you too dear partners - God bless you for your faithfulness in praying and supporting us.

GUAM
Vacation Bible school (VBS) began the last Saturday of July and will continue on each Saturday until the end of August. Our theme is: "Growing the Fruit of the Spirit". We thank God for 25 children who came last Saturday, to enjoy the stories, memory verses, seat work, craft, games and food! One child raised his hand to receive the Lord and we thank God for one soul won for Christ! Continue to pray for wisdom for the teachers and for all of us to grow in the fruit of the Spirit. We are still missing about 18 children who have been part of our Kids Klub this past year. Pray that there will be no hindrances for them to come.

PHILIPPINES
We thank God for the safe arrival of the Cleopes from their two-month furlough. We thank God for a fruitful trip, for reunion with family and friends and the opportunities to be with supporters and partners. Pray for wisdom and strength as they resume their responsibilities.
Meanwhile, we are thankful for another open door in Kilogan. Pastor Ed Genotiva shares: "Praise God for an open door to begin a Bible study with the Legaspi family in barrio Amapa. I am thankful for church members in Calutcot for their willingness to go with me to this barrio and do evangelistic visitations. Pray for hearts to be open to God’s word."

BAHAY KALINGA ORPHANAGE
Baby girl, Amador was picked up by our Chief Aircraft Mechanic Fred and his wife, Edna from a hospital in Manila. Born June 24, 2006, she was abandoned by her mother. Pray that her needs and the needs of all our children (10 right now) will be met and that those who are qualified can be processed for adoption at the earliest time. Pray for Christian parents for them.

PALAU
Our Palau Team thanks God for the just ended Vacation Bible School. With a theme: "Home Planet, Caring for God’s Creation", the children learned about Jesus, our Creator and Savior, and how in knowing Him, we have the responsibility to care for one another, help the needy and live in harmony with each other. Of the 46 children who attended, 26 were first time visitors. The plan of salvation was presented in each session (every Sunday afternoon, for the whole month of July) and we are trusting that all those who attended have made the decision to make Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

YAP, MICRONESIA
We are thankful for God’s direction and answer to prayers on behalf of Amos Collins, pilot and aircraft mechanic. He is now in San Diego to build up his flight hours. The Lord has provided a home with a Christian family, a car and even a cell phone. He says: "It is amazing how the Lord goes ahead and sets things up. I am grateful to Him!" Pray for safety and protection for him and enablement to build 500 hours so he can come back to Yap and be of help to Peter Reichert. It is important that we have more than one pilot in the field in case of emergency (i.e. when there is more than one medical evacuation in different locations, or if one pilot is sick or needs to go on furlough, etc.) Meanwhile, please pray for Vince and Molly Davis (missionary pilot candidate) as they continue to raise support. Pray that they may not grow weary and that the Lord will soon provide their full monthly support.

POHNPEI, MICRONESIA
The Medical Ship, M/V Sea Haven left Pohnpei port on July 22 on their way to Weno Chuuk, first stop for the ship to pick up Dr. Dennis Yeoman (dentist) and food stuff for distribution to the Namonuito islands. On board are: Nob Kalau (Ship Captain) and crew: Eddie Romolow, Edson Tilimwar and Roland Weibel. With them are: Dr. John Escote (PMA Philippines Medical Director and Ophthalmologist), Morri De Witt, dental hygienist from Highlands Community Church, Seattle Washington, John Mayfield and Micah Collins (uncle and brother of Amos Collins), and last but not least Nadya Kalau, Nob and Sylvia Kalau’s daughter. She will be leaving for college soon, so this will be a special time with her Dad. Her friend Erpeleen Ilon, daughter of one of our elders at PMF church, Pohnpei, joins her as well. They have sailed to the western outer-islands of Pulap, Tamatam, and Pulusuk - dropping off food, medical and educational supplies and are now anchored at Puluwat for Dental/Medical and Eye Clinics. They plan to be there for two weeks. We are thankful for good weather, as well as safety, protection and good health of the crew. Pray that they may be a blessing to the people they serve. Pray for special times of teaching and discipling with island church leaders.

Following the Sea Haven on her voyage through the vast Pacific Ocean, via radio communication with Nob, makes me all the more thankful that we have a great God able to care for them, give them strength everyday and more importantly, enabling them to serve Him with joy.

Thank you and God bless you for being part of all the work we do.

Together serving Him,

Melinda R. Espinosa
