Mission News Update May 2009
Dear Mission Friends and Partners,
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the
Lord Christ you are serving." Colossians 3: 23-24
This is a good reminder for all, especially for us in the mission field. Many times we do
many routine, menial, and behind the scene tasks. And more often than not, no one even
acknowledges or notices what we do. However, as we do various tasks, as we meet the needs
of the people we serve, as we faithfully share the Gospel, may it be that we will be faithful
knowing that it is God Himself we serve. Just as Jesus Christ, the King of Kings came as a
servant - may we have that servant attitude - honest in estimating our own abilities, able
to be joyful in our work, being appreciative of a job well done, not leaning on our own skills,
but leaning on the wisdom and strength of our Lord who called us to serve Him. Pray for us that
our motives and attitudes may be constantly pure so that His light may shine in our lives.
GUAM
We continue to uphold Ethel Laco in our prayers. She has been a faithful member of Pacific
Mission Fellowship Church (PMF) for many years - first in Palau and then in Guam. Her Bible school
training and ministry experience has been a great help to us here on Guam. We have accepted her
to serve with us full time. She, however, would need a visa to serve here as a missionary.
Please pray for the Lord to intervene and for her visa to be approved. Meanwhile, she will
be serving for a month in Patnanungan Island in the Philippines at our PMF church.
She will be training Sunday school teachers from all our PMF churches in the Polillo
island group and assist Mercy in children's outreach during this month.
Pray for a productive time as well as wisdom for all who will be attending to learn and
practically apply all the lessons.
PHILIPPINES
The Marriage Retreat that our Pastors and their spouses attended in Manila
has now borne fruit! Our Pastors duplicated this in their islands of ministry and has
brought many families into the church - couples who attended were blessed, so now we have
requests in each island for such a seminar. A couple who attended has asked Pastor Ed and
Beth Genotiva of PMF Kilogan to conduct a Bible study in their home. We are praying that
God will use this ministry to bring revival to the islands as we plan to invite school teachers,
fishermen, farmers and government officials for the next Marriage Retreats.
BAHAY KALINGA ORPHANAGE
We praise God that our Orphanage once again passed the accreditation
process of the Department of Social Welfare & Development (DSWD). This is done every three years.
PALAU
Pastor Bambit was visited by a young man from the States who is originally from the
Palau outer-island of Sonsorol. His short visit was to meet with Pastor Bambit and share
with him about a young man who was part of the "Rubber Band" - a youth band from the
southern island of Palau, who joined the PMF Friday night ministry outreach to Bands
called JAM (Jesus and Me). He thanked Pastor Bambit for planting the seed of the Gospel
in the life of this young man. Because of this, he has given his life to the Lord and is
on fire for Him. We thank God that His Word indeed will bear fruit in due season.
YAP, MICRONESIA
During Easter, the PMF youth group did a fantastic job performing a mimed
skit set to music which they helped put together with their leaders, Amos and Heidi Collins.
This was presented in an inter-church open-air youth rally and at the PMF Sonrise Service.
The skit portrayed Jesus battling with Satan in order to rescue people that Satan held captive.
Jesus' self-sacrifice on behalf of mankind and His final victory over death and Satan at
His resurrection - was clearly portrayed. The final scene showed mankind kneeling at
Jesus' feet in worship and Jesus saying, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.
No one comes to the Father except through me." Amos, Heidi and the youth were
encouraged by people's response to the skit and praise God for the opportunity
to "preach the Gospel" through drama. Pray for all those who watched the skit – that
the Lord will use this to bring salvation and encouragement.
POHNPEI, MICRONESIA
On two separate occasions, two ladies recently came to Sylvia Kalau
seeking counsel. Both were experiencing problems at home. Sylvia shared with them the first
step they could take to begin solving their problems and that was to receive the Lord Jesus Christ
and allow Him to be their Master, their Savior and to guide them in this life through His word.
Praise God, both of the ladies accepted Jesus. Pray that as they begin their new life in
Jesus - they would have the strength and the wisdom to face their problems and allow God to
use them to be a blessing to their respective families.
We are so very thankful to God for allowing each one of us to serve Him in the islands.
It is a great joy for all of us to use our training, talents and time so that many in the islands
may come to know Him, give their lives to Him and live for Him. Thank you dear Partners for
praying and giving. During this difficult times, we continue to experience God's grace and
provision - because of your faithfulness! The Lord richly bless you! He is faithful.
In Him we live and move and have our being,
