Mission News Update August 2009
Dear Praying Friends and Faithful Partners,
However, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?
Luke 18:8b
This was a question Jesus asked after He shared a parable to His disciples to show
that they should always pray and not give up. Persevering prayer does help in growing
one’s faith. Faith and doubt, trust and worry are as incompatible as oil and water - and
faith and trust are developed as we lean on the Lord through prayer. In my experience as
a finance person, we plan and develop strategies and have goals, but in the end, we walk
by faith and not by sight. And as we trust Him, as we commit the work of the ministry to Him,
He directs our path. Pray for us, with all the needs and challenges we face - we will
persevere in prayer and have the faith to believe that He is able to do exceedingly,
abundantly - all we can ask or imagine. The word of God says that without faith it is
impossible to please Him and we do desire to please Him with all our hearts.
Our prayer is that He will find faith and find us faithful as we serve Him.
GUAM
On July 7, we welcomed Selina Landauer from Switzerland.
She is ably assisting Melinda at the PMF church and at the PMA Haus with
various responsibilities. Her arrival is so timely and needed as we still await the
approval of Ethel Laco’s visa to serve here on Guam. She will also have the opportunity
to visit and assist our Palau station for two months. At the moment, she is preparing
for our Kids/Youth Klub program that will commence mid August. Please pray for all her
preparations and the visitation we plan to do this week at the homes of our children and youth.
Pray for opportunities to share God’s word with parents.
PHILIPPINES
We thank God that our PMF Amaga church celebrated their first anniversary.
The church is an off-shoot of PMF Kilogan’s evangelistic efforts in the area and thrives
as seekers attend the church services. Brother Jose and wife Gemma serve in this church
and continue to be discipled by Pastor Ed of our PMF Kilogan Church. Malcolm Cleope, our
OIC is making arrangements for Jun to get more training, not only theologically, but also
in church leadership, discipleship, administration, and finance. Pray for the Lord to
provide teachers who can periodically come to the island and disciple/train our island pastors.
BAHAY KALINGA ORPHANAGE
We received JL, an 8 month old child for temporary shelter.
He was malnourished, weighed 9.6 lbs. He also had a cleft palate and harelip.
His harelip condition has been corrected and now we wait for a schedule for his cleft palate operation.
His mother, whose husband left her has 4 other children and needs to earn a
living to support her family. Her older children are able to care for themselves,
so that leaves JL. He now is a happy baby, and has gained 2 more lbs. We are thankful that we can help
JL and his family during their time of need.
PALAU
"The 13th Anniversary celebration of PMF Palau was simple and everyone rejoiced in God’s
faithfulness," shared Joy Balayo, Pastor Bambit’s wife. "The PMF singers shared songs specially
prepared for the occasion, the children presented a dance and the PMF worship dancers performed as well.
Pastor Edmund Kalau, our special guest speaker was an inspiration and encouragement to all of us as he
brought forth the Word of Truth. After the service, two of our members followed the Lord in water baptism
and feasting followed. We are thankful for each member who shared of their blessings. Many stayed in the
afternoon for games and movies. It was a great day to remember God’s goodness through all these years!"
YAP, MICRONESIA
Vince and Molly Davis have been learning through WAITING. The most important of this
is waiting on relationships. For friendships to grow stronger and be more comfortable with the island’s culture.
Two years of investing their lives with their Yapese neighbors and outer-island acquaintances is finally bearing fruit.
They are grateful to God for this. Continue to pray for them as their first term of service will soon be over - for God's
direction.
POHNPEI, MICRONESIA
As I write this, Nob Kalau and Crew (Eddie, Tedor and Lihno) are busy preparing M/V Sea Haven
for another voyage. They are also joined by Stan who will assist Nob with the engines/generator, and Charlie Johnson
arriving from Arizona two days before departure time. This time it will be a supply run to 18 outer-islands of Chuuk.
They will be delivering solar water stills (converts salt water to potable water), books and educational supplies for
elementary and high schools, medicines and medical supplies for outer-island dispensaries. Pray for good weather,
health of crew and opportunities to share the reason that compels us to help the island people.
When I look at all we are involved in and the impact our lives and the work that we do have on the island people,
I know that prayer, abiding in the Lord and obedience to Him makes the difference. Bringing hope to the people
where we serve and allowing God to use us to change lives can only be done in faith because it is by Him, and in
Him we live and move and have our being.
Thank you for Praying for us. Thank you for your faithful partnership through all the years. May your faith
be rewarded as you trust Him to use you to be a channel of His blessings!
God bless you!
