Mission News Update December 2011

Christmas Letter 2010 by Nob Kalau

Dear Friends,

Just last Sunday, I had the privilege of baptizing a group of 16 in our warm Pacific Ocean of Pohnpei. It was a day of celebration as one father together with his young daughter, took this most important step. A devoted and concerned wife had prayed 7 years for his transformation and finally her prayer was answered and her beloved one's eyes were opened. 10 young people from the outer islands of Lamotrek and Woleai also took the step of faith, declaring: "I belong to Jesus!" PMA missionaries and supporters have prayed for transformation in the outer islands for 36 years and it was a great celebration and victory to see the fruit. When PMA first came to work in Micronesia, the spiritual door to the outer islands was closed. God used the airplane, the Sea Haven ministry and the PMF churches to help the people in tangible ways so that the Gospel of truth and love could be demonstrated and received. What a perfect time to celebrate, to be thankful, to remember, to rejoice and to marvel at the reason for which Jesus Christ came to Earth:

  • First, Christ came to proclaim GOOD NEWS to the spiritually hurting, to preach the good news to the whole world, including the small islands of the great seas.
  • He came to HEAL the broken-hearted.
  • Jesus came to set people FREE who are bound by sin. He came to open our spiritual eyes to our great spiritual need.
  • He came to give us ABUNDANT LIFE. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. John 10:10
  • He came to GIVE HIS LIFE for us. Jesus said, "For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Mark 10:45

So in all of the celebrating that Christmas brings with family, friends, gift-giving and activities, let's keep our focus on what really matters. Christmas is about God sending His Son to die on a cross. He was born to die, so that we could have real abundant life.

Together, the missionaries and staff of PMA in Micronesia and the Philippines want to thank you for your tangible demonstration of love and concern as you have been faithful to support PMA with your prayers and financial gifts throughout 2011. As we look forward to the challenges and surprises of 2012, let’s celebrate the fact that God is and will always be in control, that He came to earth, humbled Himself and was born among us.

Warm island greetings to you and your family this Christmas,

Norbert Kalau

GUAM
Pastor Ed Kalau left for Arizona for further treatment at Mayo Clinic. Please pray for healing and strength. I talked to him recently and he said he has been spending a lot of time writing his memoirs. Pray for this as well - that this book may be completed soon to bring honor and glory to God.

PHILIPPINES
PMF Patnanungan Church celebrated its 27th anniversary! We thank God for His faithfulness. 120 people came to attend the celebration, which included our PMF church family, families from Catmon Village outreach, and Learning Center students and their parents. Everyone did their part to make the celebration a successful and memorable one. After the service, 7 people followed the Lord in water baptism.

BAHAY KALINGA ORPHANAGE
Thank you all for your prayers! Requirements and documentation for Romel's adoption was completed in November, and was immediately approved. ICAB has matched him with parents and now he waits for them to come and take him to his permanent home. Pray for traveling mercies and for the bonding between him and his new family.

PALAU
God is our great provider which was shown during our Thanksgiving Sunday Celebration. The children sang their composition of praise and thanksgiving to our Great God. Praise the Lord for our faithful members who testified how they have grown spiritually through their personal devotion, small group and Sunday Sermon and how God has provided for the needs of their family because they faithfully tithe. Praise God for another opportunity for our children to sing during the Christmas lighting of Palau Royal Resort. By Joy Balayo.

YAP, MICRONESIA
We first met Simion and Leona during a medevac. They had both boarded a ship in Satawal bound for Yap. Leona had cancer. Due to her condition it was decided to drop her off at Fais Island from where we flew her to Yap. During our frequent hospital visits we found both of them very receptive to the Gospel. What a joy to be present when they accepted Jesus as their Savior and Lord a few days apart. Simion spent hours reading God's Word while sitting on the floor at his wife's side in the hospital. Leona suffered terribly the last few weeks of her two month stay in the hospital. She went to be with Jesus on Thanksgiving Day. By Peter and Esther Reichert.

POHNPEI, MICRONESIA
36 years ago, PMA was born with the vision to use the airplane in order to reach the peoples of the isolated outer islands. On Sunday, a small portion of that dream was realized as 16 people stepped into the ocean of Pohnpei to be baptized. 10 of the 16 were from the outer islands of Woleai and Lamotrek. What a joy it was for Nob to baptize these young men and women currently attending the College of Micronesia. Most that were baptized had been a part of the PMF youth group in Yap, led by Amos and Heidi Collins. Praise God for how He is moving in hearts and gently calling islanders to steps of faith and obedience. By Sylvia Kalau.

We thank God for His faithfulness throughout the year. He is indeed our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace! Thank you for your prayers and partnership. The Lord bless you!

In Him we live and move and have our being,
