Mission News Update June 2008
Dear Praying Friends and Faithful Partners,
"Even strong lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD never lack any good thing." Psalm 34:10
As Nob Kalau (PMA CEO) and I prepared the Plans and Budgets for this coming fiscal year (2008 - 2009) and through 2012 - we saw what it would take to fulfill our vision and meet the needs of the Mission in terms of personnel and resources. Humanly speaking, the plans seem to be ambitious, overwhelming and unattainable, but we both believe that we have a great God who we can depend on Him to meet all our needs, and can make all things possible. Did He not say in Mark 11: 24, "Whatever you ask for in prayer BELIEVE that you have received it, and it will be yours."
We ask you to please pray with us as we implement the plans for these coming years. Pray for our U.S. Advisory Board: Rick Johnson (who also is our Vice President), Dr. John Creasman and Harry Cawood as they spearhead the fundraising efforts in the United States. They will need wisdom, discernment, strength, contacts and opportunities to present PMA's Case for Support. Pray for hearts to be open and willing to give.
GUAM
What seemed to be a problem, turned out to be a blessing in disguise for us here on Guam. Simon Hämmerling, our aircraft mechanic from Yap had to fly to Guam on a medical emergency. One of his teeth was giving him so much pain, and only in Guam could he have his tooth treated. The dentist performed a root canal and he had to stay three weeks on Guam. During those weeks, Simon, a servant at heart, was very busy. He took care of so many repairs in the PMA Haus, checked all our vehicles and generator, helped me in moving donated items, sorting and storing them, helped with the yard work, and assisted in the weekly Kids Klub. Most of all, I thank God for him as he met with our men and encouraged them with his friendship. He did spend relaxing times at the beach, hiking to a cave, and visiting friends. Pray for Simon as he faithfully serves in Yap. He not only serves in the PMA aviation department, but also assists in the PMF church ministry and does prison ministry.
PHILIPPINES
Malcolm and Mary Cleope, and their children will be leaving on furlough from June through August. While they are gone, missionaries: Terry and Sheila Gort will be given added responsibilities to oversee our mission work in the Philippines. Already Terry Gort has been given the responsibility of being the Director for Bahay Kalinga Orphanage. He and Sheila are so happy to do this as these children have now become dear to their hearts. Pray for the Cleopes that the Lord will give them a special time with family and friends. Will, their eldest just graduated from High School and has chosen Northwestern College in St. Paul, Minnesota. Pray that he will settle well and adjust to this new chapter in his life. Pray for the Gorts - for wisdom and guidance as they take on new responsibilities.
BAHAY KALINGA ORPHANAGE
"Mary and I saw Jess yesterday," shares Malcolm Cleope. Jess is one of our special needs children who was transferred to a home that cares for older children. PMA continues to provide for his financial support. "According to the head of this home, Jess is the most respectful and kind child in their home. We are thankful for the care and guidance that he received at BK. Even if Jess is getting to be comfortable and growing in all areas of his life, we feel that he should be in a real home. He is now 10 years old and can be adopted before he turns 18. Please PRAY!"
PALAU
Building the Body of Christ and Discipling the faithful - are two of the mission statements of PMA/PMF. We are thankful that Pastor Bambit took these to heart, and so the Lord has raised up men in our PMF Palau who are able to teach, preach and take responsibilities to enable our Pastor Bambit Balayo and his family to take an overdue furlough. Pray for Joel Arevalo, Ramelito Claveria, Sofronio Mahor and Ken Uyehara who will be taking over the pulpit ministry and lead in many of the activities in the church. Ruth Fulguerinas will be acting PMA Station Manager while Pastor Bambit is gone and will need all our prayers. Already they are preparing for the 12th Anniversary of the Church with Pastor Edmund Kalau as special guest speaker. Pray for all preparations to glorify God.
YAP
Praise God for the safe return of Peter Reichert from his visit to Germany and Switzerland. We are thankful for the people and places he and Michael Lange (PMA Germany Manager) visited and for hearts that were encouraged and challenged. Pray for their continued prayers and partnership with PMA's missionaries and ministries. Peter has also appointed Vince Davis as Director of Operations and Amos Collins as Director of Maintenance. Pray for them as they undertake their responsibilities in the new roles they were given - for wisdom to do all for the glory of God.
POHNPEI
As we continue to wait for God’s provision for the SEA HAVEN, medical ship dry dock, the Lord has given us the faith to step out and begin preparation for it. Day by day, He is showing us that this is His ship and He will provide. As of now, we still need $120,000 to complete this project. We are very thankful for the many who have already contributed and know that when the time comes, He will deliver. The Lord has confirmed this in a verse given to us the night this letter was written: "So He told His disciples that a small boat should be kept ready for Him because of the multitude..." (Mark 3:9) Pray with us for the Lord’s timely provision!
As a mission, we boldly will attempt great things for God and expect great things from Him, because He is the all-powerful God! Thank you dear Partners - You are an important part of our ministry – as the Lord uses you to bless and encourage us in prayer and support - the work continues in the islands and lives are being transformed to the glory of God!
In Him we live and move and have our being,
Melinda R. Espinosa
